  1. quick thing. There is no difference between yams and sweet potatoes in America. Yams are a tuber in other countries but not very popular or even available in North America. Slaves came over to the American South and saw the sweet potato and it reminded them of Yams in Africa so they called them Yams but its really just a misnomer. Any yams you see in America are a different form of Sweet Potato. And the candied yams are just a type of sweet potato. The yams you mentioned are not cooked in America unless in a traditional African restaurant. Someone on youtube made a great video about it but I cannot remember who it was several years back.

    Edit: It was Vox

  2. Just wanted to let you know that this is my new go to recipe for candied yams they are amazing and so delicious I’m going to pass it on to all my family and friends who love delicious food

  3. I have been making mine this way for about ten years only I dice them and throw them in a slow cooker. Tossing them every hour or so. I usually just dotted each layer with butter, brown sugar, and {cinnamon/cloves/ginger] but I may try it your way this year and will add vanilla. BTW, I use Irish butter for this! Nix on the nutmeg, I don't like it either.

  4. Will definitely try this easy recipe, I love sweet potatoes. I did notice the written recipe says 375F but you 1st said 350F and the text matched however you later said 375F but the text still said 350F….I’ll assume 375F throughout.

  5. Thank you so much for this recipe but personally I try not to use foil anymore as any moisture droplets can cause a little bit of aluminum getting in their food and I know I might sound like I'm nitpicking but anybody who has had serious memory loss as I did in the past can become very fussy about aluminum .
I wonder what would happen if you topped it off with parchment paper instead ?
I use parchment paper in the bottom of the rack of my small convection toaster oven and do not have any problems

  6. Three dishes! He likes washing dishes better than I do. No cast iron. It darkens the potatoes. And why put in oven? I do this 100% in the same skillet on burner.
