  1. Really nice — here’s a tip: whisk up the dry ingredients BEFORE you add the wet. That way you ensure everything is evenly mixed and don’t have to overstir.

  2. I live in Kentucky and I know several older women that would make these including my grandma. To me, they are basically fried unsweetened cornbread. Or sweetened if you like that. But maybe they are different in other places?

  3. My Mom used to make these when I was a girl. My sibs and I tease her, that she was not a particularly accomplished cook, but as she retorts (good-naturedly), "You didn't starve." This was one meal we always looked forward to.
