  1. I had banana blossom fish and chips last spring and I've wanted to make it ever since. I got a tin of it from Amazon then bottled out. Now I've got to get on with it.

  2. I just made this and your tartar sauce recipe. Served up to the neighbors too ( non veg neighbors at that) Everyone was really impressed and a got a kick out of the unusualness. (Your batter mix was fabulous too ) thank you!!!

  3. Try removing a third of your flour and replace it with Custard Powder….YES, Custard Powder. In the 50s in Singapore, my mum was showing our Amma Chi Ching Heung how to make F&Cs. Ching then showed her the custard powder mix for staggeringly good batter. Mum was one of five girls, all of whom were waiting to learn this trick when we got back to UK. Batter in our family has always made this way since the 50s.

  4. "…botanically speaking, [bananas are] a type of fish, sir. According to my theory it's cladistically associated with the Krullian pipefish, sir, which of course is also yellow goes around in bunches or shoals."

  5. Hey, I'm not sure if it was the banana blossom I used or if I did something wrong when following the recipe, but mine came out horribly salty and vinegary almost. I'm really upset about it, anyone help?

  6. I love this recipe! I made Vegan fish last night and it was sooooo delish! I will definitely try this recipe with the beer batter, and even the rice paper as well. You are amazing!!!

  7. I live by the sea in the UK and I wish I could just go to the fish and chip shops here and order this. I also work for a vegan magazine here which we have featured you in Candice, and we made a banana blossom fish and chips recipes

  8. I tried this recipe today. I actually marinated the banana blossoms for a number of hours and I also agree that they should definitely be cooked in the marinate to have the flavour run all throughout the banana blossoms. I didnโ€™t do this and found mine to be lacking in flavour. But cooking them in the marinade would solve this problem

  9. Hi. I just discovered you and this is going to be my first recipe. I love your style. Iโ€™m also going to make your ricotta cheese and bake it as cannelloni.

  10. I'm curious about the fish and chips wrapped in newspaper you mentioned. I'm from the UK, I remember newspaper wrapped fish and chips in the 1970's. But it was made illegal to wrap fish and chips and also raw meat in newspaper about 35 years ago, even if it is just the last outer wrapper. Nobody has seen it served that way since that time. Are you sure it was newspaper and not a paper cone or wrapping paper with a fake newspaper design on it? You look way too young to remember the 70's!! Fish and chips served in real newspaper smelled delicious through the paper… nothing like the white paper they now use.

I love your recipe! It's the first time I've heard of banana blossom. Looks a lot like chicken too. I saw some in a can in a supermarket online, but not sure I'll be able to get hold of it any other way.

  11. So, since you are the Queen of Hacks, can you figure out how to make a good Corned Beef Sandwich on Rye Bread with Russian Dressing just like I'd get a Katz's Deli. Jewish style corned beef. One of the few things that I really miss since becoming vegan. Along with this Fish and Chips. Thankyou!
