  1. In biochem, we learned MSG is an umnani flavor. We all have free flowing glutimates in the brain, so it can attach and act like an excitotoxin. But, so does caffeine, sugar, artificial colors (etc), to some degree… There's no proof that people can develop migraines from it, but just like the other 3 listed above – people can intolerances, or allergic reactions. Thankfully, I'm not one of those people heh heh 😊

  2. I was diagnosed with an msg intolerance, along with peanuts, soy and nightshade vegetables that would trigger migraines. It's not as bad as it was when I was little, but large amounts will trigger a migraine.

I think the worst is peanuts because peanut butter is my favorite food.

  3. No, it is NOT essentially salt. That is an irresponsible statement. MSG is an excitotoxin. ALL excitotoxins are harmful to our neurons as they overexcite them and lead to their death.

  4. Because MSG in large quantities is actually bad for you. Not because of racism. It's almost as if people are trying to find racism where there isn't any.

  5. From the freaking mayo website:
"Researchers admit, though, that a small number of people may have short-term reactions to MSG. Symptoms are often mild and don't need to be treated. The only way to prevent a reaction is to not eat foods that have MSG in them."

I am one of those people and I suffer from migraines. Well aware that MSG is naturally occuring in foods. But if I eat a concentrated amount of it, I can get a migraine without even being told a bunch was added.

I also can't drink very much red wine.

There's also a study conducted by the NIH that proves that there's a small amount of people that actually do have sensitivity.

Just like red wine, if I drink a little bit I'm fine I don't get a migraine. I drink a big glass migraine, 🍷 then what the heck migraine.

  6. Interesting fact: MSG is the single most researched food ingredient in recorded history, largely because of white panic about it. Not a single study has EVER been able to confirm causation of any of the symptoms it's blamed for.

  7. Thank you SO MUCH for this! I love to use MSG in pretty much every recipe as I've found that it enhances the flavor of the dish a lot better than salt can do. I have encountered a lot of people who just think that MSG is this bad evil ingredient that disrupts your hormones and deteriorates your brain activity etc. etc. but none of them have any reputable source of information to back up their claims lol
