Sam: when my ex husband dragged me to suburban NJ to live, we were fascinated when we looked at homes to buy BECAUSE the Italian homes had second, huge kitchens down in their basements, with big screen TVs, giant dining tables, pool tables: party zone. So you are right! Real Italian families in NJ all have this whole party zone in their basements with a fabulous kitchen! I had no idea, being a California girl.

  2. This should be done with a bunt cake pan…. Put the dough in the cake pan about 1/4th or half full, put all the toppings and sauce in the valley of the dough that is in the shape of the cake pan.. Then put a thin layer of dough (remember to poke a few times to let steam out) over the toppings… Then bake the bunt cake pizza…

  3. We made this. I used the springform pan that I use for cheesecake, you know, the one with the graham cracker crust and cream cheese with egg etc. Popped the Monkey Bread into the oven as directed and about 15 minutes later the oven started smoking! My house that was built in 1949 has poor ventilation and quickly filled with smoke. Husband open the oven and put the pan outdoors! The butter and fat from the sausage and pepperoni had leaked out of the springform pan and dripped on the bottom of the oven. Then there was a fire in the oven because all of the fats were flammable. Fire went out. House cleared of smoke. Took the monkey pizza out of the leaky spring form pan and we finished cooking the bread in the toaster oven. Bread and dip was very good. Next time cooking it in a Bundt pan.

  4. DO NOT USE A SPRINGFORM PAN!!!!!

    We followed the recipe exactly and some a springform pan might not be 100% leakproof. My pans were brand new, and a small amount of the garlic butter grease leaked out.

    I have a gas oven/stove and it started a small grease fire. Fortunately, I watch things as they cook and I had a fire extinguisher in my kitchen just in case, but it if I hadn’t been prepared, that fire could have burned my house down.

    MAKE THIS IN A BUNDT PAN!!
