  1. Love the video and advice to make your own roast beef, deli-style. But if you don't have a slicing machine like you, how can you get the slices thin enough so they are more tender? Won't thicker slices with a knife be chewier? Just wondering what your thoughts are on this, Sam.

  2. Just tried this out. They're pretty darn good. Here's a couple lessons for next time:

    Keep an eye on them in the final uncovered bake or you'll end up with them a bit over-crispy.

    Chop up the meat. The melted cheese is basically lube that will allow whole slices to pull right out. I've used this trick before for grilled ham-and-cheese and should have thought of it ahead of time.

    I put the extra basting sauce on some fries. Would definitely recommend.

    I had some leftover fresh thyme from thanksgiving and added that to the basting sauce. It worked pretty well.

    These are messy. Have a paper towel on hand. Normal napkins probably wont cut it with all the cheese and butter.

  3. Made this and it turned out amazing!! But instead of homemade buns I used plain old white bread. And instead of the butter on top I did gravey. With mashed potatoes.

    Ok, the only thing I used was the roast beef. But it really scratched that "oldschool American diner hot roast beef sandwich" itch!!

  4. I couldn't eat this, because of all the mustard for one, point two too much horse radish. Not a good combination for a gathering of people with wildly varying tastes! Other than that+++ spot on with the beef and buns!!!

  5. This looks REALLY good, but at 70 I don't have a slicer anymore nor can I make the buns from scratch. Therefore, I'll have to buy the beef from the deli, and use Hawaiian rolls. But my husband and I eat so little that I think I can make this work.

  6. Please don't pull away meat slices whIle the meat cutter blade is still moving! I don't want you to slice your thumb tendon! Freaks me out! Looks delicious asf though! Love your food/videos!

  7. I need to do this with my meat slicer. I just bought it and used it to slice up an eye round roast super thin for some beef jerky. Turned out great. I might have to bring some of these to our next poker game as a distraction. LOL

  8. I'm sure these sandwiches are very tasty but by cooking them so long. After you cook the meat, you're taking away from the Rare meat aspect.And I don't really know if I would like that
